Last June, right after an expensive annual, and
preparing to fly to the EOC Nationals, I lost oil
pressure, luckily while doing my run-up on the ground.
Engine had 500+ hrs. SMOH 20 years ago. Decided to not
risk priming and go for the overhaul. Found a corroded
acessory case, cracked crank and numerous other
failings. Sent engine to a reputable engine shop in
Omaha. New crank $1717, new aluminum accy case $601,
overhauled fuel pump $394, 4 new millenium cyl kits
$3183, new bearings and all the parts needed for a new
or almost new engine for a total cost of $8346 in
parts, $1600 labor plus freight, taxes and other
supplies for a grand total of $10866. Then I had to
hire my IA to hang the engine back on the plane. Total
cost $14000. WHEW!!!!! Boy I wish I was a mechanic or
a millionare!!!!! But ain't this flying fun?
