Ed is right NEVER underinsure the HULL or the liability for that matter.I filed a claim and it was close to being totalled but I came out OK.I had hail damage and the Insurance co decided that  they would pay 100 percent for repairs (skin replacement) and 50 percent for the paint I negotiated  for them to pay 75 percent on paint..Their contention was that the bottom of the plane was not effected I had an adjuster that helped out and they paid most of the paint  too. When you all  are up for renewal don't  potentially screw yourself.Dennis 99564 and Metlife ins Co (Iwork there 20 years)we don't do Aircraft Ins--  Investments-Long term care-Mutual funds ETC oh yeah, life ins.If  you ever have a claim  you should have the ability to re-negotiate it if it smells bad. They will try to give  you 10 percent of hull to make you go away.Don't do it  think it over first then talk to this group we can and will help-- this is a good group on your side.Dennis (one of the prettiest coupes this side of this side)BTW look at all the group knowlege we have. we should  now add up the total time  and the total coupe time  ds

AUA is a popular aviation insurance group.  I have mine through them.  They were able to get me the best rates and recognize vintage aircraft.  Might give them a call.

Antique Aircraft Association is still doing insurance?  Great.  I had my insurance through them for quite a few years.  Low rates and they understand older aircraft and pilots like us.

Jeff’s argument with the insurance company is illustrative of an important rule – if you get hull insurance, do NOT UNder insure your plane.  Jeff almost got his plane taken from him because of damage that he (Jeff) thought was not total.

By the economics of insurance, if the insurance company sees financial advantage, they can take your 50% damaged plane, declare it a total loss, pay you the insured value and take the plane, then part out the plane and maybe get off with paying out almost nothing.

This leaves you with less than replacement dollars in your pocket and no airplane.  It’s better to insure for the high end of reasonable value for the plane, even if it costs you more in premiums.

The cheapest I found was through the Antique Aircraft Assoc group policy. It was worth joining to get on it.

Hello,
Reading  the latest post on Sport Pilots insurance reminded me to ask to anyone in our great coupe group, No pun intended, how or who can I get insurance from for less then $400 plus per year for only PL&PD.That was the cheapest I could find because the companies say that because I am 78 years old a student and especially that I am flying Ercoups. They said that if my plane was a Cessna it would be $200 cheaper. Can you believe that? Are the coups considered antiques of collector Items?
Any and all comments appreciated.
