Bettina & Bob: The spin-on filter works well, and does filter the oil much better than the screen. However, be cautious about switching from mineral oil to ashless dispersant (AD) oil. The AD oil will remove considerable carbon buildup, which could create and internal problem in the engine. If your engine has more than 150 hours since major overhaul, I would not change to AD oil.
If your engine has less than 150 hours since major overhaul, I would change to AD oil, but leave the screen in place for the first oil change. Then remove the screen and use only the filter there after. You will find that the oil stays cleaner with the filter, which should improve the life of the internal parts of the engine. However, you should still change oil with the change of seasons to help remove the acids that build up.
