John,

Two airworthiness directives concerning wing corrosion, they
are 2002-26-02 and 2003-21-01. You can look them up on the FAA.gov
website to get a detailed read on them. If you have your eye on a
particular 'coupe, insure that these two inspections are complied with.
They are repetitive inspections. These inspections and findings are
something to consider during the pre-purchase inspection as with other AD
compliance.

As aircraft get older, corrosion issues will arise. Ercoupe
isn't the only airframe with spar corrosion problems in the GA fleet. So
with proper inspections and preventative maintenance from knowledgeable
mechanics and owner/pilots, these aircraft will continue to provide good
service. Sounds to me the mechanic you talked to was a little sarcastic.
Yes, metal, given time, will revert back to its basic element.

Hello, I am new to this forum.. I am considering buying a coupe. My uncle
had one a long time ago, when I was a kid. I talked to a mechanic at a
local field. He told me that all erco and forney coupes have a wing spar
problem,, He claimed that they will all have to be replaced-repaired at
some point in time. Is this true? any info. would be helpful,, Thanks,
John
