Regulations like taxes do not have to make good sense they are just the
way
they are.
If a Coupe has been converted to a 415-D or is a 415-E or 415-G then it is
just not eligible for Sport Pilot, We should be very happy that they
changed the rule and that the 415-C and 415-CD now fit the rule, for those
with short memories we had some long discussions about why the Coupe
should
be allowed in Sport Pilot when they were thinking that it would not be
allowed.
Light a candle and stop cursing the darkness.

Just a quick reply to both items:
Ø The FAA is quite adamant on that point: If a plane Was Ever
Certificated at the larger weight, It Is Disallowed Forever!
I hear what you're saying but it seems contradictory to the following
paragraph found on page 80 of THE ERCOUPE by Stanley G Thomas. it is
as
follows;
"The CAA assigned a new Approved Type Certificate number (A-787) to
the
415D. The ATC was granted on June 13, 1947. Erco soon decided that the
up-elevator limitation seriously affected the landing qualities of the
aircraft, and they only sold 77 of them before going on to the 415CD.
The 415CD restored the up-elevator to the previous 13 degree limit and
reduced the gross weight back to 1260 pounds."
Now it seems to me that those with the (converted) D model wanting to
revert back to the CD model with a lower gross weight are doing no
more
than ERCO themselves did.
