Hi Ed::

Don't the elevator cable cross one another?  If that particular step is missing the cables would come up with the wrong lengths!

Plane fly funny too!

Norm,

I’m inclined to agree with Hartmut.

The up elevator limit is a collar on the shaft of the control yoke.  When you pull the yoke full back so the limiter is against the panel, the elevator should be at the specified up travel.

When the yoke is relaxed all the way forward, the elevator should be the specified amount down.

The up and down limits can be found on the EOC website in the pre-purchase inspection article:

http://ercoupe.org/Prepurchase_inspection.html

I’d check that before I’d touch the cables.  The mid point in the yoke pull may not be “level” at the elevator.

Norm.

How do you define "neutral position"?
The Type certificate only speaks about an up limit and a down limit in degrees. (Depending on Model)
I think if your coupe is in those limits, you are fine. The "neutral" position is set inflight by the trim tab position.
So check the limits first, before you fix something that is not broken.

Hi,
I noticed that the elevator on my Coupe is hanging down about 5 degrees in the neutral position.  I am thinking that the upper and lower cables may be in the wrong location and causing the problem.
This would of course only be a problem if the upper and lower cables are different lengths.
Does anyone know if the upper and lower control cables are the same length or different lengths.
I thought I would try to find out if this was a potential problem before I removed them.
Thanks again
