Tandy,
Do you have it connected to an external
antenna? My Icom IC A21 hooked to a gel cell and with an external antenna,
works great. I have about as much range and reception as a panel
mount. However, when it was just using a "rubber ducky" antenna, it was
about a 5 mile radio. roger

Had some problems flying into Dallas Addison because I couldn't contact the tower before getting inside the controlled air space. However, I have found that you can buy an amplifier that will increase the power outage to 10 watts - about what a panel mounted radio will do. Aircraft Spruce has this item in their catalog. My question : Has anyone tried to do this? The installation is simple. The amp has a BNC connection for the radio imput, another for the antenna outlet and a positive and ground wire connection.
