In response to Ed's comments about the light boxes
not being TSO'd, that is not entirely true. The Becker com is the same size as
the Microair and is TSO'd. Also, the Garmin gps/com's are tso'd and fit in the
panel with room to spare from the fuel tank. If you were going to get both a gps
and a com, its an econmical and space efficient way to do it. The panel moving
maps are not up to the sophistication of the Garmin or Lowrance higher end hand
helds, but they can do a fair job. Don't expect used ones to be a bargan though,
you'll find the price on new is only a few hundred more.My entire new
panel, Lowrance Airmap 1000, Becker 720 com with outside air temp, hard wired
Icom nav-com, a used collins tpx, encoding altimeter, intercom, and a full
fledge avionics bus panel was just over 6 pounds.
