Boys, am I ever down in the mouth. On the project Alon A-2 Aircoupe, which I've made a summer out of, the re-welded and repaired header tank is now back in --- but the filler neck doesn't protrude enough above the cowl to get the filler cap's ram-air hole up into the slipstream. In the welding process the mounting flanges apparently got moved, and I don't think enlarging or moving the fastener holes will help, either. Anybody else had this problem? Any suggestions? I hate to pull this tank back out again. Pulling it, then getting it back in is pure H, as anyone can tell you who has had their back gouged with the trim tab actuator and the seat pegs. Plus, stuffing yourself under and behind the panel is an interference fit if you're 6'1" and 220 like me. Somebody with claustrophobia would stroke out. Thanks to John Cooper for some good parts and tech advice. Cleveland wanted $160 apiece for hubcaps, so I did some fibreglas repair on the old ones and laid up a layer of glass over each hole on the caps and made thick felt gaskets, so the outer wheel bearings and races would have more protection against dirt and grit. ========================================================================== ==== To leave this forum go to: http://ercoupers.com/lists.htm Search the archives on http://escribe.com/aviation/coupers-tech/
