Hey Jim: (I think since you did not sign your name) I had the same problem
with a 1945 415
which I was able to cure with a little 1/8" ID model airplane copper
tubing. I drilled a hole into the fuel filler cap in a semi vertical position so
it would open into the existing vent. Then I took the copper tubing and forced a
piece about 1 1/4 inches long into the hole I had drilled. I fitted the cap and
carefully bent the tubing forward until it was directly into the airstream.
Viola, the problem was solved. You have to be careful in bending the tubing so
you do not crimp it, but it can be done.
