To All,
Why don't we all do it right,  Get the aircraft rigged per the service manual or at least check the rig as per the service manual then adjust the trailing edge of the ailerons per the instructions in the service manual.  Riveting in pieces of aluminum or adding any form of trim tabs makes the aircraft un-airworthy.  The trailing edge of the ailerons is the trim tab for a coupe.  The procedure for adjusting the Ercoupe trim tabs (trailing edge of aileron) is located on page 27.  It states " if wing heaviness exists with controls properly aligned, extreme trailing edge of aileron (flat section containing rivets ) may be used as fixed trim tab and bent with suitable metal bending pliers.  Bending must begin at outboard end of aileron OPPOSITE heavy wing, and bending ust be downward.  Amount of bending and length of area bent varies with amount of wing heaviness present.  Slight bend over great length is preferable to pronounced bend over a lesser length.  It has been determined that wing heaviness necessitating 5 degrees deflection of control wheel from neutral to hod the airplane on course in flight can be corrected by 3/16 inch downward bend for full length of trailing edge."
Of course bad heim joints, worn chains on the control column, worn universal joints, etc. can all cause the same problem.  You can check alignment yourself and only tools you would need for the check will be a length of wood board, some clamps, a ruler, a caliper, mark 1 mod 0 eyeballs and the ability to go through instructions from a-z without jumping around or skipping steps.  If adjustments are needed, you also need a A&P mechanic.
