I was the one who bought Paul's Ercoupe back in July of this year.

David Herman ferried it from Spanaway, WA (S44) to Springfield, TN (M91) via
I-94 over the Rocky Mountains, then direct to M91. It is about 1700 nm
straight distance, but to get over the Rockys and such, I think he flew more
like 1900 nm.

It took him 5 days (he was lucky - no bad weather). He only flew during
daylight (a good idea if you've not flown the plane before... otherwise you
are in a strange plane, with an unknown reliability history, over unfamiliar
territory, and cannot easily see where to land in an emergency).

I paid his expenses... $1409.87. (including airfare home)

I'm very sure it would cost at least that much in gas for trailering... not
to mention paying a mechanic to remove and reattach the wings. If it can
fly (safely), then I'd fly it.

I had a similar problem, but in reverse. I sold my Coupe many miles away. I
was unable to deliver it myself. I put the word out on a local pilots
mailing list and soon had several people who wanted to do it. I picked the
chap who I thought was best suited for the trip, checked him out, and sent
him off. My insurance covers any pilot private or higher so the plane was
covered.

It was kind of tough seeing my Coupe disappear in the distance. However I
now have a 930# useful load, so I don't worry about the trees at the end of
the runway any more. <Grin> That kind of makes up for the loss of the Coupe.

Cheers:

Paul
