>From what I read, it seems that the fuel lines of the pump are reversed.
It is easy to attach the hoses the wrong way.
The effect would be that on climb the header tank is being pumped empty to a
certain amount and the fuel will be pumped into the main tanks. That would
explain loosing so much fuel on climb out trough the mains. When the plane
levels in flight, the pump will not get any fuel anymore, because the line
that actually fills the header tank is somehow in a higher position of the
header tank. So your pump pumped air while you were luckily finding your
landing spot.

I would check the routing of these hoses before coming to the conclusion
that the pump is dead.
