Balloons loose the helium pretty fast. I know it, I have Kids.
However, staying within the gross weight limitations is important. The gross
weight of the plane might not be so much of a consideration when flying from
sea level airports.
When one on the other hand tries to fly out of Grand canyon international on
a September afternoon, it is an issue as you might discover by the end of
the runway. I did and I am taking it into carefully consideration.
My weight and balance calculations showed me that when I fly with a
passenger, I need to know his weight. if he's heavy (more than 150 pounds)
then I have to have a plan when it comes to higher altitude.
I am flying a 415-E conversion. I wonder how the C and C/D pilots handle it.

Why not fill all three tires with helium and stuff as many helium filled
balloons in the plane as you can to lighten the gross wt ???? ds BTW it
costs less too

The nose gear fairing weighs hardly anything. As long as you do NOT have a
snubber cable, the nose gear can extend fully and the fairing then gives
you
very close to a one (1) mph increase in speed, according to Fred Weick,
the
Ercoupe designer.
