Dave,

Where do you live?  There's a guy on the Aeronca list that has fabric, will travel.  In fact he teaches covering and has some guides on the subject.  His work is well respected.  Two Ercoupe wings should be a fast job.  Also, an AP near me does recovering and did   wings on a local Coupe.  The first guy is in Maryland, but does travel (infact in Europe for a month doing a job there).  The other is in middle Tn.  Roger

In that same vein, my old coupe needs new wing fabric.  Looks like the job will fall to me.

Is there a definitive “How To” reference out there? (This really intimidates me.)

How big is the job?  How long should it take?  Should I just find an expert to ensure it is done right?

Nobody in my town wants the job.

I can answer your second question. You can train for Sport Pilot in any aircraft, even one that's not sport pilot compliant. However, you can't act as Pilot in Command except if the plane is sport pilot compliant, meaning that all dual instruction is fine in a (non sport compliant) 415E, but any soloing (as a student or after certification) and your check ride MUST be in a sport complaint 415 C or CD.

Hello,

Wanted to check some issues with the group.

Has anyone had experience with a fabric recovering system that goes by the name "Hipec" ???   It is supposed to be a Low Tox alterative to traditional dope. They have a website and I do see  ercoupe in approval list for Cert.

Also want to find out if I can do my flight training in a 415E with rudder pedals (Not LSA),  then hoping to purchase and restore a 415C for checkout and personal use thereafter under LSA rules.

Finally,  I have a stainless header tank from a coupe.   Seams are soldered.  One seem has a small tear.  Is the solder the same stuff that is used for circuitboards and commercial electronics ?    I was hoping to heat it up briefly with a small butane torch and let the solder flow back into the open seam.

Thanks,

"Sparky"
