Just because it does not "aircraft" doesn't mean they don't know the quality of their parts.
Here is an email from them:

Dear Mr. Biggs,
We make kits for all the AC pumps. A pump needing repair will, we hope, have a pump number stamped into the edge of the mounting flange to tell us which one it is.
When there are no numbers, or the number was not covered by a kit we have already figured out, we probably have to see the pump in order to make up a kit for it.
Our pumps run the Flying Wing in San Diego, and we have worked on countless wobble pumps, and many other aircraft pumps.
Single action kits are generally $ 24.50, and $ 7.50 covers surface shipping and handling in the US.
Hope this helps, Tom":
Bill, you and I are together on this one.

Hi Wayne,
Maybe your team didn't win? ;-)
The "made in USA" A.C. (auto) Fuel Pump incorporates a check valving to prevent any liklihood of fuel flowing back into the crankcase if the "made in USA" diaphragm fails. These functions don't "go on strike" in protest of the presence of non-A.C. parts. It is uncommon for the fuel pump actuating arm to have wear warranting replacement during a routine fuel pump overhaul. That lasts much longer than the seals, gaskets, screens, and odd small bits. If an actuating arm does need replacement, THAT part should come from Continental, I agree.
There are a lot of foreign made aircraft and foreign made parts are not automatically deemed unsuitable for the purpose intended. Some may be in a new A.C. pump today! There are also quite possibly aftermarket automotive parts made here in the ol' USA...just not by A.C. anymore. Until there is some specific directive prohibiting the use automotive parts sold in the USA for use in US-made automotive fuel pumps, the use of these parts in Ercoupes is as legal as it was the day Ercoupe fuel pumps were manufactured AS AUTOMOTIVE PUMPS.
The only "horse that won't die" is my right to express an honest opinion for due consideration without ridicule. The choice of an automotive fuel pump for the Ercoupe was Fred Weick's and Erco's, as was their confirmation that auto parts were fine to use in those pumps. My only "campaign" is to make sure the truth is heard (over the chorus of the FAA, it's certificated mechanics and monopolistic manufacturers and their legal departments). These good people are hardly objective, inasmuch as the "system" limits competition in exchange for their compliance.
There is no credible evidence that owners of vintage aircraft like ours would have a safety record as bad as the homebuilt crowd if we were allowed full "owner maintenance" rights like Canada has adopted. Those with lots of money could keep doing what they do today, and those of us having difficulty affording a limited number of hours aloft would have more of them for the same money.
The attitude that "if you can't afford it, don't fly is elitist, at best; and insensitive. About as helpful as saying if you don't have the money, don't get sick. We have a lot of "senior citizens" on this list and some, like me, aren't exactly rich with disposable income. We pursue our dreams as best we can, safely.
Regards,
William R. Bayne

OK Bill, I'll quit challenging your "It's OK to use auto parts in the fuel pump" campaign if you will include in your campaign speech that if the "Bought at Bubba's Auto Parts - Made in China" fuel pump diaphragm ruptures, and fuel drains into your crankcase, and your engine seizes or throws a rod, that you will have a lot less than an hour to find a landing spot. Fair enough? ;>)
Oh yeah, you also have to include words to the effect that "the actuating arm and linkage parts have to be of identical dimensions and materials to the parts that are on the AC fuel pump that is specified for the particular engine."
After all, we don't want anyone out there getting killed just because he/she wasn't quite enough of a materials scientist and fuel pump engineer to determine that the "Made in China" parts had some material or dimensional flaw that caused their pump to fail, right?
I guess this horse just won't die, huh?
