You can't clarify points not thoroughly researched by reading ESM 28 (as I suggested).

I think much of the information in ESM 28 is now outdated.  All spinner and related parts part numbers have been superceded.  There is one spinner and one forward bulkhead for metal props and 2 aft bulkheads, one for each crankshaft type.  I am not aware of any required trimming.

If prop "forward face" (per Erco) and "front face" are synonymous in restating 2.2. of ESM 28, my words merely restate those Erco chose, presumably in the interest(s) of clarity. Erco was writing for owners (and their mechanics) in the field, and not prop manufacturers ;-)

Owners maybe.  Mechanics should know the difference.  In the world of power plant mechanics, the face of the blade refers to the flat surface and the back to the cambered surface.  Interesting, they also refer to "rear hub face" and "forward face of the propeller mounting flange."  Put your best face forward...

Well, to pick nits, a crankcase COULD be referred to accurately as a "(crank) casing", but most likely a dropped "T" in "(engine) "casting". Sorry.

Ah, but there are many castings in the engine... ;)

Is it not absolutely clear that if you move the prop forward such distance as to require a longer spinner, per ESM 28, then the flange shaft engine increases the length of the then-necessary spinner (and the length of the plane)?

I don't know why they talk about a longer spinner, unless they are filling the now larger gap between the prop and cowl.  Regardless, that's old hat now.

Anyone have a copy of ESM 22?
