Hello All,
IMO the Feds told Univair to find a way to have the rivets
checked,  they came up with the quickest and easiest way to
comply.  Apparently Univair has no aero engineers on staff so
they picked up the Yellow Pages and found a suitable (to them)
inspection procedure - happened to be someone in the area.
Their backsides are covered and the Feds are happy.

I am in no hurry,  as I am a long way from flying anyway so
I am talking to a major airframe overhauler and a major a/c mfg.
to try and find:  #1 Alternative rivet inspection and #2 Some sort
of extrusion (spar cap) inspection.  These two questions are
important to ALL aircraft owners with rivets in their airplane as
a properly maintained Ercoupe is no different than any other
airplane with similar  AGE,  TIME,  CYCLES.  Who wants to suggest
where the Feds will draw the "line",  if an AD is issued on the
Ercoupe?

Rather than being reactive let's be pro active and try to find
a suitable and affordable solution to the aging aircraft issue -
in particular Ercoupes.
John
