Hi Craig,

Yes it is very possible that some of what will be seen as possibly a bad
rivet will in fact just be problems with the hole that it passes through
and the swelling of the rivet, as it is designed to do, into empty spaces
which may look like a crack of side shift in the rivet that will show on
the screen as a small and suspicious peak short of the target depth. We
will drill all these out and if we find nothing will just fill them again
and not know why we got a bad reading until we test the new rivet and get a
similar reading.

I think you will not find a non aviation company that will be interested
but good luck. I would look at large size FBO's that do helicopters and
corporate jets as they are more likely to have the people and equipment to
do the job. Yes, they will cost a lot if you have to just show up and pay
the going rate and they will mostly not be interested in owner assistance.
They also will know nothing about a Coupe and you will pay for a learning
curve. You may have better luck working through the local EAA chapters who
may have individuals who are employed at these FBO's or airlines who have
the skill and perhaps the interest to help out, they may even be able to
use the company equipment to do the job for you if they are real nice guys.

All that said keep in mind that if you do the check called for in SB 32 and
have a finding of any kind you will have to have the plane fixed correctly
before you fly again, on the other hand if you do not look and do not see
you can keep flying until it is required. This may not be the safest way to
go but if you look and if you find problems you will have to fix it. You
will also start the clock running for the time that the next check is
required six years later. I would guess that the FAA will make this AD
(given that they do) due at the earlier of the next 100 hours, annual
inspection, or one year from the effective date of the AD. If so you may
have to do the repetitive inspection as much as two years sooner than
waiting until it is required if you do it now.

Have a good day.

Best regards,
Vern

Not that it makes any difference but it is possible that some Coupes
left the factory with flawed/defective rivets in the center section. I
have been waiting ( more than a week ) to hear back from a testing firm
about inspecting the center section. I fear that when they read
AIRPLANE they did not want the LIABILITY!! I also wanted to know if the
rivets could be checked from the 'head' as well as the buck tail. That
would aid in ease of inspection I think.
