You are correct, the Coupe on the cover of the AOPA Magazine (my Coupe) has two tanks in each wing...AND IT STILL HAS THE ORIGINAL, GRAVITY FEED, HEADER TANK. My total fuel capacity is 40 gallons. Jason was correct, the former owner lived in Alaska and wanted to have better range. He (John Rogers) designed and got field approval for two additional 8 gallon tanks in the wings that gravity feed to the main tanks. The main tanks still feed the header tank. I spoke to John recently and he told me there are now 5 Coupes flying with his fuel modification. Thanks John!

Did anyone notice that the Ercoupe shown in the AOPA article had two fuel tanks in each wing? I have never seen or heard of such a thing, has any one else?

As long as there is no AD nothing is "required". I think that if you
elect to have the inspection done, and come up clean, or maybe with
only a few rivets requiring replacement, it would be prudent to forgo
future inspections until such time as you suffer a hard landing or
get caught in a thunderstorm or something similar. If they didn't
fail in 60 years it's unlikely they will fail in the foreseeable
future under normal conditions.

According to Glen Davis (owner of that 'Coupe), the plane was owned by a guy
in Alaska at one point. As fuel isn't available every 50 miles (like here
in the lower 48) he got 337 approval for additional fuel tanks to be
installed in the leading edge of the wings. He gave me the details on
capacity and such, but I'll let him post it to the group.

Considering my 'coupe is a 1 person plane already (as I weigh a lot) and
sucks down 6-7 gal/hr with the O-200, I wouldn't mind seeing that 337 and
ponder copying it. I like to fly to St Paul, MN from here and would love to
make it in one flight. Yes, I have a good bladder ;)

I believe that STC removes the header tank. I wonder if I could keep the
header tank? That'd make me happy. I wouldn't need a mechanical fuel pump
(get to keep my electrical one by itself) and still have the warm fuzzy
feeling I get from a gravity fed fuel system.
