Sadly, that seems to be the case.
What nobody was able to do is to explain what is the logic or rationale of the FAA for this.
Nobody has showed me what is the additional private pilot PTS or training that justifies the FAA establishing a private pilot can do some preventive maintenance while the sport pilot can't.
Another senseless rule set by bureaucrats.

Alas, Eliacim, it looks like, as a Sport Pilot, you won’t be allowed to change the oil or fill the tires on your standard certificated Ercoupe (until you upgrade to a higher pilot license).  Fuss-fizzle!
