Dave.

For an initial inspection of the center section I usually recommended taking the wings off AND have the inspection holes installed. Any findings would require taking the wings off anyway. And it is relatively easy to work on the plane with the wings off. The inspection plates are allowing access to locations that one can not reach even with the wings off. And they allow for easy inspections afterwards.

That was before SB32. Now, since we might have to take the wings off very 6 years anyway for the Ercoupe pregnancy test (Univair found that the reproduction cycle of Ercoupes is every 6 years), it seems not to matter anymore. Since we might have to take the wings off every 6 years , we might as well do it every 3 years too. The wings go off fairly easy and Univair even published usable data on reassemble - e.g.. bolt tightening requirements.

Howdy again from KS,

Well it's been about 3 years and it is time for the wing removal / inspection of the main spar AD. And I need a little help from the group. Every one has been chatting about the new SB 13, but I haven't seen much on the older mandatory spar AD. My AP is researching the best way to go about it. It was last done by the previous owner so I do not have a clue as to what to expect. Do the wings have to come off? Can it be done by cutting inspection ports? How much $$$ and or hours should one expect? Any experience you all could share would be much appreciated. Thanks again
