On one hand, it's not that complicated. There is no proviso that the part not be available through normal channels. On the other hand, you must have some justification for the part you manufacture. It generally is reverse engineered from the original. A stainless spar (or wood or carbon fiber) would not fit that. What we have here is major material substitution. Once you manufacture this part, you need to install it in accordance with the FARs. That means an A&P and in this case an IA have to sign off on the part being suitable. Good luck without a major engineering study. Oh, then it also qualifies as a major alteration (the installation, not the fabrication) so you need a field approval...

Other than that, no problem...
