I use the Trafficscope Micro, which is more limited than the Monroy, as it only shows a bar graph which lights up as you get closer to another transponder, and no range or direction information.

I think it is a great safety aid and makes me aware of traffic that I may have missed in my scan. With mine, I have to look everywhere to see where is the traffic. Yours, with some range and direction information, is much better, as you know where to look.

For anybody considering these units, I would say my unit (the cheapest out there) is better than nothing. However, If you can spring the extra dollars for something that has range and direction information, like the Monroy, it would be so much better.

These units' software ignores your own transponder signal based on its strength. If you were flying in formation, it should have always shown the other AC as a target. In the manual for my Trafficscope Micro it warns that the unit is not very useful when flying in formation. The manual for the Monroy should mention something to the effect.

Subject: [COUPERS-TECH] ATD-200 Traffic Detector

----[Please read http://ercoupers.com/disclaimer.htm before following any advice in this forum.]----

Coupers,

Anybody have any experience with the Monroy ATD-200 traffic detector?  I put one in my Alon and was wondering what other folks thought about it.  I've only made one trip with it installed, and haven't come to any real conclusions yet.  Most of that trip was flown with another Coupe about 200 yards away, so I don't know what the ATD-200 was "thinking" about that target while we were flying along.  It did call out traffic twice that I saw in the air, called out a helicopter on final approach to a runway that I was waiting to take off on, and called out two targets that I never saw.

Anyone have any experience with this gadget?

Best Regards,
