Hey Ed: If you do not have a service manual, I suggest you obtain one. They are relatively inexpensive, and for things like bleeding the brakes are indispensable for owners/non mechanics. The brake systems are described in fairly good detail starting on page 35 and run through page 38.
    The proper bleeding of the Hayes brakes depends on whether or not your airplane has a bleeder valve in each brake line. And even after proper bleeding, there may still be air in the expander tube inside the wheel. This requires a vigorous pumping of the brake pedal 25 to 30 times and then re bleeding the brakes.
    The brake blocks are supposed to be checked at every 100 hour/annual and replaced when they wear down approximately 1/8 inch from new.
    I have never checked a Hayes brake system and am only quoting from the service manual.
