Paul and All,
Do you know where to find one of these filters. Give me the name of a catalog or web sight where I might find oneif you do.

But for right now, back to my original question. How is the air filter supposed to be held in on the lower serial # Ercoupes? I can't recall right now but I think that they changed the airfilter design at about # 1000.

Thanks for all the help. There is a chance that we could get it in the air this week.

I have a 1946 415 C, ser no 557. I'm wondering how the carbureator/air filter is supposed to be held into its housing.

It's a round wire mesh filter.

Instead of answering your question, I'm going to suggest buying a Brackette air filter replacement which is STC'd for your plane. This filter uses a foam element which is discarded and replaced at annual/100 hour inspections or when dirty. This will provide real filtering for your expensive engine. AND to boot it costs less than an original mesh filter element.
