Hey, folk, this is incorrect (through no fault of
Wayne's). Apparently, El Reno, once the exclusive distributor of the
filter kit, took it upon themselves to rewrite the FAA approved
installation instructions. Fact is that the screen must be removed
in order to comply with the terms of the STC.
El Reno is apparently no longer distributing the kits, although they
seem to have the corner on the NOS market...
As Wayne mentioned, the way to remove it is by de-soldering
it. Hacksaws are for hacks... ;)
I suggest you remove the part formerly known as the screen
periodically anyhow as that housing seems to collect a lot of carbon
deposits, although that tendency may be reduced in the absence of the
screen. YMMV.
Also as Wayne pointed out, the filter installation is a full flow
setup on all engine types.
