Dr. Beeman, everybody.

 

I am a European and I disagree in all points stated below.

I value freedom of speech and see a situation where "they have refined so well that they don't even think they're being controlled" as a police state and a result of dictatorship. It was one main point of fighting communism, the freedom of speech.

If someone needs protection from himself then one should ask himself what is wrong and take respective action, but not have the whole society forcefully watched by the other half of the society.

Well, I certainly hope so! And it's high time, too. I don't feel comfortable contributing to this forum unless I can be certain that some disembodied person - or even better, a committee - is passing censorial pre-judgment on my contributions.

 

It chills me with a nameless dread to think that my thoughts and opinions might be launched out across the ether to all of you without having been vetted and approved beforehand by those who protect us from ourselves.

 

This is where Europeans have it all over us Americans. They share a thousand-year-old culture of censorship, which by now they have refined so well that they don't even think they're being controlled. This is a wonderful thing and if we could get it in this country we'd have a lot less disagreement and controversy, and we'd all be a lot more secure.

 

Let's hear it for The Moderators, fellow pilots! You know in your hearts that what you really want is to have somebody tell you what's good for you, and thereby run your life. Gosh, I wish we were Belgians.
