Contrary to popular belief, if the cable breaks the elevator does not
flutter.
It is still connected by the very sturdy push rod. You will only notice
heavier up trim but no loss of control. The extra up tendency is easily
compensated with a little foot pressure on the mast, not a factor to flight
safety. Not even a reason for canceling a flight back. (It never breaks
when you are going nowhere).. The spring and cable are just generating a
variable down pressure on the elevator and is not related to elevator control.
I believe I have heard of an electric trim being adapted to a coupe. (maybe
even legally).
