The rubber ring... I can't answer that with authority,
but I believe it is just for spacing and keeping metal against metal
contact.
I have no immediate ideas about your nose strut grease
issue.
The breather pipe should extend outside the
cowling. There should also be a notch cut out of it inside the
cowling. The notch is there in case the end gets frozen closed by
moisture, which could result in pressure buildup in the crankcase. That
can be seriously bad. I don't have them in front of me, but it should be
in the parts, service, or other manual... If I can remember, I'll look for it
tomorrow.

Subject: [COUPERS-TECH] Cowling part
----[Please read http://ercoupers.com/disclaimer.htm before following any advice in this forum.]----
Gang
I have three questions:
One, there was a rubber gasket around the headertank filler-neck, where in
passes through the top of the cowling. I say "was" because I had a new
cowling installed and the rubber part is no longer there! Can anyone tell
me what is the purpose of this part (to keep the rain out, vibration dampening?)
and where I can get a replacement?
Two, there is dark Grey grease that collects on the chrome part of my nose
strut after every flight. In fact, this grease seems to ooze out of the
collar just above the chrome area of the strut, as well. I know we need
some lubrication on that strut but this grease is really thick after every
flight. Is this normal and if not, what is the cause?
Three, there is a "breather" pipe that comes from the top on the engine,
close to the front, and ends at the bottom of the cowling in the rear of the
engine compartment. Is this pipe suppose to extend through the bottom of
the cowling or terminate inside the cowling?
Thanks for your help.
Hope to see a lot of you at OSHKOSH!
