Hi list,

Have something to report to the list, and a request.
I was having problems with my generator after overhaul. I could not get it
to start putting out voltage.
I figured I would tackle the problem later in the summer.
But one day as I was up flying I noticed the voltage starting to creep up
from 12 volts to 13 volts over the period of a couple of minutes. The generator is now
working fine and has shown no tendency towards further problem.
After consulting with some antique car buffs they suggest that sometimes it takes a
while for the old generators to regain their magnetism. It may also have had something to do
with the fact that I was only doing circuits and did not let the engine rev up for a long time to its
cruising speed.

Now the request.

I am about to do my annual, and have to do some work on the MLG. It am starting to get some
shimmy in the gear.  I have done work on this area before but always ran into some problems.
So here are my questions.

1. What is the proper tool for removing the large flutted nut on the tubular pin whihc holds the lower leg to the upper leg?

2. What is the best way to remove the pin from the assembly without damaging the thread?

3. What parts normally need to be replaced to solve the shimmy problem?

4. I am using the cup and the o-ring on the shock, but last time I put the cups on I had
a heck of a problem getting them into the shock tube. What is the best way to get the cup into the
shock tube.

5. When does one need to replace the large hollow pin due to age and are they easily available?

Thanks in advance for the help and the useful comments in past positings.
