True, but if your continuous load is draining all the output from the generator and not allowing the battery to charge (like in my case 13 amps generator output, less 11 amps for the beacons, less whatever the COM and Xponder consume = not enough to charge the battery ), a couple of minutes of landing lights in the pattern could drain the battery enough that its capacity to start the plane immediately after landing is jeopardized.
 
John is right, you have to add the continuous loads (radio, xponder and beacons/strobes) and on top of that, have enough current to charge the battery.
