Syd;
Thanks for the correction, it's been a long time
but the story was reported as it was related to me. Obviously someone
called somebody the president of the EOC. Must have been the impression
they had, easy mistake. Your defense is certainly noble, I'm sure
there are many who appreciate it, and I've already expressed my opinion about
the matter. I have no desire to take it further than one more question and
please remember I mentioned no names. For all I know, it could have
been Jesse James who the Fed thought had the authority and ability to
speak for all Ercoupers.
Why didn't the "Directors" of the Ercoupe Owner's
Club work with the FAA, rather than allow one fellow do the work for all of you? Trust him? Your
choice I know, but he's absolutely not qualified to speak for me on a
procedural or technical matter. May be a
good idea to ask your executive director what he offered up as help, if he'll
tell you. Ask how he helped, ask what he did, phone, visit, how many, how
much. If you;re a director, you need to know these things. And for
those out there who feel that it's a good idea for someone who is considered a
leader of a type club to recommend voluntary compliance with an SB, maybe
you should take a lesson from EVERY other type club, AAA, AOPA and EAA to see
exactly how that type of thing is handled. This time the system worked,
the SB wasn't made into an AD because cooler heads prevailed at FAA.
Gentlemen, this SB, is absolutely too broad. The cost of the proper
testing alone would have been out of reach of a very large portion of the owners
so the obvious would be grounded planes and perfectly good planes for
sale. We've already seen the sharks come out as far as pricing the
aircraft, some used parts pricing is outrageous and we've yet to see new STC's,
and PMAs. That goodness that many of the STC holders are interested
in the Ercoupe more than they are their own pockets.
When I first returned to Coupedom over a
year ago, I rejoined EOC. I let it lapse and maybe I need to subscribe
again to make sure the type certificate isn't retired because someone just
thinks it's a good idea. I say "subscribe" because most folks I speak to
join because of the newsletter, nothing else. I'm sorry IO didn't have the
tenacity to finish what I started when I was director.
