Hey Dennis: Glad to hear that you got your mag drop problem solved. It sounds like someone had drilled out the holes in the metal mounting piece for the windshield. The holes in the Plexiglas need to be larger than the screws, but not the ones in the metal. I would make an aluminum strip to put inside the piece on the aircraft. Make those holes the proper size for the # 6 screws (#28 drill) and put it in place with some RTV, or some flush rivets. After it has set up, or is riveted in place, you can fit and drill your new windshield. Those holes do not need to be 1/4, but should be at least 3/16. Then mount the new windshield, using some sealer (RTV?) around the screws.
    The original installation used acorn (cap) nuts on the inside, so it had a little more finished look.
