I have an M-10 which is almost identical to the Alon canopy and I never open it inflight. Some years ago a local M-10 owner had the canopy blow off in flight. It remained attached to the aircraft by one 'roller' which caused the canopy to lay over on the wing. The pilot said this made the plane very difficult to control. He got it back on the runway OK. I have had my canopy pop open at the rear fiber 'guide'. The latches and guides are a poor design. Closing the canopy inflight is not easy especially at night! I double check both latches and make SURE the aft guide is in the fiber ramp.
