----[Please read http://ercoupers.com/disclaimer.htm before following any advice in this forum.]----I participated in a SB 32 inspection yesterday and would like to pass on some observations. We had the wing tanks off and this turned out to be a good thing. The inspector must place the transducer on the shop head of each rivet. Since he is reaching way up into the center section, he is essentially working blind. With the wing tanks off, he can reach around to the manufactured head of each rivet and touch it while taking a reading. This tells him which rivet he is on and enables him to insure he checks each and every rivet. The space inside the plane is very restricted. The floor boards need to come out. In addition, the inner panels that cover the sliding windows need to come out. He absolutely could not get to some rivets with these in place. Since the seat bottoms need to come out, and the seat back must be loosened to get the side panels off , I'd remove the seat back also, This would give the inspector clear access to the center section. Have some plywood on hand so he can step in the fuselage without damaging the skin.Jason Ellingson has kindly agreed to post some pictures taken during the inspection on his website. This plane is undergoing a restoration. There is some corrosion that needs to be addressed and the SB 32 compliance was conducted to insure that the plane was indeed economically repairable. As it turned out, the spar was in excellent condition. All rivets were intact, as bucked 60 years ago! This inspector had done one other Ercoupe and feels that getting a good inspection is fairly difficult due to the restricted access.Cheers:PaulN1431A(A&P IA)============================================================================== To leave this forum go to: http://ercoupers.com/lists.htm
