Eliacim,
When we overhauled my engine, prior to the first start, we took out all the top spark plugs and spun the engine over with the starter until we saw oil pressure on the oil pressure gauge. This was with a B&C starter which spins the engine over pretty fast. I don't know if a standard starter will spin it fast enough or not. If you do this, take proper precautions that you don't overheat the starter. The B&C tells you how long you can engage it for, but with no plugs installed, it's not working very hard. Also, we pumped oil into the oil galleries (before spinning it over with the starter) by removing the two gallery plugs on the front of the crankcase, and pumped oil in there with an oil can. Also filled the passages leading to & from the oil pump by taking the oil filter off and pumping oil in there. Basically put all the oil you can in every passage that you can. In particular, you want the oil pump full of oil.
I also fill my oil filters with oil before installing them on the engine. That decreases the time the engine runs without oil pressure on an initial start after an oil change, because the pump does not have to fill the filter before oil pressure hits the bearings. You might think that if you fill the filter and then turn it sideways to screw it on, that all of the oil would spill out of the filter, but it doesn't. I can fill the filter completely full, and then screw it onto the engine without spilling more than a few drops of oil. The oil is pretty thick when it is cold, and if you are quick, you won't make a mess. That's assuming that you have an oil filter at all. If you don't, then you don't have to be concerned with that.
Best Regards,
Wayne

Subject: [COUPERS-TECH] Pre oiling?
----[Please read http://ercoupers.com/disclaimer.htm before following any advice in this forum.]---- I am working in my engine overhaul. Before starting it for the first time after overhaul, Continental specifies the need to pre oil the engine. Can anybody explain how is this achieved? Is this done with some kind of external pump? Where is it hooked? What is the procedure?
