Greetings: I am an Ercoupe 415 CD owner and Zenith 601XL builder from Morgantown, West Virginia. Add my name to the list of folks who love their Ercoupe. Having an ultralight lineage, the open cockpit option is a joy. My son and I have flown it to a couple of the reunions and with help from Syd, it’s been to Oshkosh twice. It is by no means a perfect airplane though and I would like to improve climb performance. In that spirit, I am considering having my McCauley 7148 prop re-pitched to 46. Before doing this, I wanted to pose a couple of questions to the list: Is anyone out there flying behind a 7146 in need of better cruise performance that might consider a trade? Maybe someone has a problem with static RPM being out of tolerance on the high side. How about weight loss motivation? These are things I can help with. For what it’s worth, I have a digital tachometer and a propeller protractor, so if you live reasonably close, I would be happy to fly to your field. We could check our current static RPM status and see if our props are pitched as labeled. If appropriate, we could swap them out, check new static RPMs and go fly. If either of us doesn’t like the change, back they go and I will leave you with a freshly calibrated tach. My prop was overhauled in 1994 and has about 300 hours since then. It tracks well and appears to be in good shape. Also, does anyone know of a McCauley 7146 for sale or have a recommendation for a shop to do the re-pitch? Morgantown is sort of close to Pittsburgh. My thanks to the administrator of this list. The archive has been useful, especially during the first few months of ownership. Posts from Lynn Nelsen, John Cooper, Ed Burkhead and a few others have been exceptionally helpful. Cheers, Bill Jones ________________________________________________________________________ Check out the new AOL.
