"rms" is "root mean square" and relates to the total power radiated, the
area under the sine wave when graphed.  Many people claim it's a better
measure of output power than peak.

 

It's OK to compare peak of one radio with the peak of another to get usable
information.  It would be better to compare rms of one radio with the rms of
the other but manufacturers rarely publish this info since the numbers are
lower.

 

So, you say that your existing radio has a knob that'll change to .x50 and
.x25 frequencies?  Then it's either one of the newer models or one that's
had an upgrade applied.  Check Wayne's radio when it arrives to see if it
also has those frequencies.  The radio you use permanently will need to have
those frequencies.
