Randy asked: > Why is the photo selection on the ercoupe-tech yahoo group > locked down?
Randy, Great question. Photos can take up a huge amount of storage, only 100 MB total. That'd only be 100 1MB photos with no space for messages. In other forums of which I'm a member, most have moderator-only control of photos so they don't run out of storage or no photos at all on the forum. Ideally, people will put pictures on their own web page and then send us the link. (example: http://edburkhead.com ) But, we will post pictures for you. If you send the picture(s) to me along with the caption, I'll resize them using PhotoShop to be suitable for web page posting. This changes the pixels per inch and JPEG (.jpg) quality level so the pictures still look good but are greatly smaller for storage and download. Then, either I will upload them or give them back for you to upload - we'll see. My own camera makes 1.5MB jpeg files but they look just fine on the web adjusted to screen resolutions and higher compression as 75kb files. If there are too many requests for pictures, we'll talk about what to do. Maybe we'll need a photo-moderator volunteer, eventually. Perhaps the time will come when we'll have to move photos off the forums onto a separately hosted website. Anyway, we can talk about it. For now, if you want to post picture(s), please let me know. Also, for now, we are letting photos be transmitted through the forum unlike a lot of other forums. That has worked well for us in the past. But, I ask that people not send pictures with huge file sizes in their messages. If you don't have the program or knowledge to resize them, I'll help. If we see too many large photos or scans go through, we might have to turn off the photo attachment option.
