There are different clamps you can use that have a pin that goes into a
hole on the muffler and stack. They won't come apart then. I have them
on mine.

You also may want to check that you have the muffler brace installed and
secured properly. Often I see muffler exhaust braced against the engine
mount... THIS IS WRONG. There should be a long tube shaped mount that
comes down from the engine that the exhaust gets braced to. This is so
the entire exhaust system can move with the engine.

Alons and such are different of course... they run dual exhaust down.

Subject: [ercoupe-tech] Muffler won't stay tight...

I had a problem a while back with my muffler coming loose every few
hours of flying. I could become disconcerting because when it came
loose the engine sounded very different, causing me great concern. At
the last annual, two weeks ago, I had the mechanic replace the
muffler clamps with new $60 ones from Univair. I flew 9 hours last
weekend to Knoxville and as we returned the engine sounded funny
again. After landing I looked and the right stack had come completely
out of the muffler!

Any ideas of why the muffler won't stay tightly clamped onto the stacks?

Thanks!
