This is the technique that I use to keep fuel in the tanks AND be able to
remove the cap without superhuman force....

On every second or third preflight, when I pull out the dipstick to check the
oil, I allow a couple of drops of oil to drip onto the rubber gasket under my
fuel caps. I spread it evenly around the gasket with my finger. I put the gas
caps back on. This seems to keep the rubber well lubricated so it is not
difficult to remove the gas caps for a few more weeks. I am not sure about
this but perhaps it helps preserve the rubber gasket, as well.

  Linda,

I've needed one of those gadgets more than once, but never knew it existed.
Maybe I should make one and put it in the plane. It's no fun when you can't
get the gas caps off! I spray mine with silicone spray once in a while, and
that makes them easy to take off, but the avgas washes the silicone away in
pretty short order. Maybe the best cure would be to put a dab of "Fuel Lube"
between the gasket and the cap. That would probably stay there and would solve
the problem. If you are not familiar with Fuel Lube, it's a type of grease
that they use on fuel selector valves and things like that. Your A&P probably
has some and would probably be willing to loan you a dab of it. A little bit
of that stuff goes a long way.

I'm going to look into getting a set of cap gaskets made from that Real
Gasket material. That stuff is very pliable, and I think it would form a
better seal between the cap and the tank, and maybe eliminate the fuel spraying
out of the tank when I climb out with the wing tanks full.
