Hey Fred: The Belleville springs were an after-market kit developed by the
original Skyport. They provide more cushion during taxi than the rubber
doughnuts. They, as do the rubber doughnuts, require regular maintenance to
maintain the proper tail height and spring action. At each annual, the airplane

should be jacked and a check should be made to make certain that there is no
play
in the rubber doughnut or Belleville spring stack. If there is play, spacers
should be added to remove the play in the stack. They can be lubricated with
grease or LPS. Years ago, I asked John Wright which was better, and he
replied that the Belleville spring was the preferred option.
