Howdy Dan, I trailered a project Coupe years ago, and the IA charged me 4 hours
labor to remove the wings. But have no way of knowing that it really took 4
hours. I'm sure some of the "hands-on" guys will be able to give you a more
accurate time frame of labor. If you decide to go with a Ferry Pilot I know one
in CA that will do it for $100.00 per day, plus expenses.
In regard to Polished Aluminum, IMO nothing looks finer. However the upkeep
can be labor intensive. Mostly determined by your location & storage. If you're
going to hangar the plane in a good dry climate, you can get away with a good
polishing every few years. But if it's tied down outside in a humid climate,
you do not want to deal with polished aluminum. Keeping that Chrome look would
either be very costly, or require a polishing every couple of months. And if by
chance you're near the coast, in a salt air climate, don't even consider bare
aluminum. Salt Air is highly corrosive to aluminum.
God luck in your search,
Richard

I'm going to buy an Ercoupe and looking at 3 or 4 that are on the
market. I am a paraplegic
so not practical to go pick it up. My friend says just take the wings off and
trailer it home.
How big a job is that (in hours/dollars) vs paying someone to ferry it for me?
One of the planes is not painted....polished aluminum instead. How much upkeep
does the
polished aluminum take?
Thanks in advance for the advice,
Dan
