Hartmut makes a good point regarding nose tire inflation. While the (or
at least my) Ercoupe manual calls for 20psi that is too much. I think
17psi is optimal.

Thurman.

Roy is right. The main cause of nose wheel shimmy is the looseness in
the linkages from the steering column to the nose wheel.
Any bolt or bearing loose there is a problem.

That means the scissor bolts should be tight, the Heim bearing in the
steering pushrod is to be tight, and even the steering collar should not
move up and down on the nose strut.

Any wear adds up and leads to the shimmy.

Also make sure that the tire is inflated between 16-18 lbs . A too stiff
tire vibrates much easier and a too soft tire can not guide the wheel as
good and may lead to shimmy as well.

May not be applicable to your problem, but when I experienced nose gear
vibration (bad) it turned out that the bolt/nut on the bottom of the
'nut-cracker' was loose.

I am a new a owner of a 415C. It was just deliverd yesterday. It came
with a fresh annual in which the nose gear bearing was replaced. It
still has a great deal of wobble and is very annoying landing and
taking off. Aircraft is located in Port Charlotte, Florida. I am
seeking an experienced ercoup Mechanic or place to take it. It has a
single fork which is the way I would like to keep it. Any Suggestions
would be appreciated.

Thanks
