Response to question about cost............... Factory new O-200 crankshaft and STC $2500 New Millennium cylinder assemblies (4) 2700 Bearings, rod bolts, piston pins 500 Crankcase Cert. and machine work 700 Camshaft 500 Gaskets, seals, hoses, hardware 200 This is a total of about $7,000.00 This will give the equivalent of a factory new or remanifactured engine. The cost of the STC purchased alone is $350.00 If you have or can obtain good used parts , obviously the cost will be less. (Plus labor) The engine I started with on my coupe had approx. 350 hours since major???? The crankshaft was scored, and out of tolerance limits. The cylinders were badly worn, valve guides sloppy, and it was obvious that the exhaust valves had not been replaced during the overhaul (Continental reqiires exhaust valves to be replaced, rod bolts, and bearings for a major overhaul) What is in the log books as a major overhaul does not mean a thing if you don't know the mechanic or shop that did the work and the entry!!!!!!!!!!!!! Also the cam had two badly worn lobes. If this seems like a lot of money for an engine, consider what your life is worth and how much insurance you're leaving to your wife to spend on someone else!! Since I plan on this being my last aircraft project,my intent is to have everything the best that I can. When I finish my coupe, I will provide a listing and pictures of my bird. I have been a pilot for more than 50 years and an A&P/IA for 40years This engine is for my 415-CD coupe, N3839H. I also own a 415-C N99573 which I plan to keep in it's original state.. I enjoy reading all the good stuffyou guys and gals put into this group!! Couper 3839H Tom
