The reason I ask is I have a wondering Ercoupe. There is a lot of play in the nose steering which is making it hard to keep it going in a straight line. Some is from the universal joints but there seems to be a lot from the nose strut collar/sleeve. I can move this collar/sleeve up and down about .025 inches. What is the amount of play that is normal here? It looks like there is a shim there that is worn. Looking at the parts book it looks like this shim is part number 34051. Does this sound correct? Does anyone know how thick this is. It is called Washer - laminated - steering sleeve spacer.
