I would say that the FAA paperwork suggests it’s a legal LSA
. When you consider the hundreds of entries made on all of that paper over all
of those years and under a variety  of
conditions, it would seem naïve to expect perfection.  This is especially true 
for the CD which is
to my mind more vulnerable to clerical errors than the simple C or D
models.  When I bought my Ercoupe, I was
so nervous I screwed up the model number. 
I did catch it before sending it in. 
Another consideration is that if it was converted to a D, prior to this
recent light sport deal, there would be no reason to bring it back to a
CD.  I think you are ok on this and I
don’t think that you need to seek a higher authority.  Best of luck in finding 
a good airplane.
