In response to Dave’s query as to whether any of us have
opted to forego insurance, my FBO requires that I carry liability insurance to
rent their hanger so I do.  I have no
hull insurance.  Although my aircraft
improves each year, it’s not near as nice as some of the coupes that I see at
fly inns.  The other issue is that I’ve
grown fond of this machine and if I ding it up real good, I would not want it’s
fate in someone else’s hands.

If not required to carry liability insurance, I would think
hard about dropping it simply because I tend to focus much more on maintaining
my health than on maintaining my wealth.
Plus, I don’t have much wealth.  I
would never presume that this approach to insurance would be wise for anyone
else.

I also want to thank Jerry for his recent posts.  I asked for Jerry’s opinion
(off list) as to the
likelihood of some of the things that we obsess about (mainly paperwork
subtleties) being argued in court.  With
his experience, I figured he was the best guy to speak to that.  I didn’t
expect such a candid response but I
sure do appreciate it.  If your wife
covers the eastern United States Jerry, would you kindly provide for me a way
to reach her?  She sounds very cool and I’d
like to get a quote from her when my policy is up for renewal.

Thanks,

Bill

Has anybody simply opted
to forego commercial insurance and fly so as to avoid needing it?

Opinions?
