How about rent a 3-control LSA for a couple of hours of training & 
currency with rudder pedals plus an hour for the checkride. Voila! 
you are a Sport Pilot with no "restrictions" concerning rudder 
pedals. If required then an hour with an instructor in your 2-
control Ercoupe for a sign-off to "add" the 'Coupe.
Just a suggestion from a lurker...

suggestion, Willie. Actually we have several SLSA 
aircraft available at TOA. There is the added expense of $100 an hour 
for the rental that doesn't help my effort to keep costs down.
